Ex-cricketer Ankur Kakkar booked for alleged casteist remarks against budding player

Ludhiana:

The Salem Tabri Police have registered an FIR against ex-Ranji Trophy player and coach Ankur Kakkar following allegations of casteist remarks made against an aspiring cricketer.

The case, initially lodged as a Zero FIR by the Salem Tabri Police, has been transferred to the Kurali Police in Mohali for further investigation.

The FIR was filed after a preliminary probe into the complaint made by Sohan Baggan, a resident of Balmiki Ghati, Ludhiana. Baggan, who is passionate about cricket and aspires to pursue it as a career, stated that he was receiving coaching from a former first-class cricketer Ankur Kakkar.

According to Baggan, the incident occurred in 2022 during a practice session at a cricket ground near Village Chakwal in Kurali.

He alleged that Kakkar made casteist remarks directed at him and subsequently forced him to leave the ground, causing him significant humiliation. Feeling aggrieved, Baggan lodged a complaint with the police on June 21.

Inspector Bittan Kumar, SHO at Salem Tabri Police Station, confirmed that the FIR was registered following a probe. He added that Kakkar has been booked under Section 3 of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The case has now been forwarded to the Kurali Police for further action.
