The incident took place in Fatehgarh Sahib, where during the Municipal Council elections, lawyer Hasan Singh was attacked by the brother of local MLA Gary Warring and his associates. The attackers hit him on the head with the butt of a revolver and also attacked him with sharp weapons. The seriously injured lawyer was admitted to the hospital.

Hearing of more than 500 cases affected

According to Khanna Bar Association President Tejpreet Singh Atwal, the police is avoiding action by making an excuse of being busy in the martyrdom meeting. The lawyers wrote a letter to the DGP Punjab and also met the SSP, who assured action, but no action has been taken yet due to political pressure.

Due to the strike, the hearing of more than 500 cases is getting affected daily in Khanna. The lawyers had also observed a state-wide strike on January 9 and staged a sit-in outside the SSP office in Fatehgarh Sahib. Now on January 16, lawyers from all over Punjab will go on strike once again to demand justice.
