Two accused arrested for demanding ransom in Fatehgarh Sahib: Demands 25 lakhs from grocery merchant

Fatehgarh Sahib: Fatehgarh Sahib police have arrested two accused who used to call from a foreign number and intimidate businessmen and demand ransom. Cars, mobiles, and other items were recovered from their possession. The arrested accused had demanded a ransom of 15 to 25 lakh rupees from a grocery merchant in Badali Ala Singh.

To get the money, an attempt was also made to scare the merchant by attacking him with bricks and stones at his house. In this case, the police arrested Prince Kumar resident Samana, presently resident Neelpur (Patiala), and Satinder Singh resident Muktsar, presently resident Khamanon (Fatehgarh Sahib).

SP Rakesh Yadav said that Ankur Madkan, a grocery merchant of Badali Ala Singh, had complained to the police that on 21 July 2024, he received a call from a foreign number. He was threatened with death, and ransom was demanded. The callers kept demanding 15, 20, and sometimes 25 lakh rupees. A few days later, his house was also attacked with bricks and stones.

On August 3, 2024, a case was registered against unknown people at Badali Ala Singh police station.

SP Yadav said that Prince Kumar drives a taxi for rent in Mohali. He also owes money to many people in Badali Ala Singh. Due to this, he started living in Neelpur, Patiala, with his family. To fulfil his drug addiction, he met his acquaintance Satinder Singh and started demanding ransom. The SP further said that an investigation is being done to find out in whose name the SIM with a foreign number is running. The concerned company is being contacted. Further, the police have taken the necessary steps.
