Jalandhar, July 20: The world’s oldest athlete, Fauja Singh (114), will be cremated today at 12 noon. He will be given a final farewell in his native village Beas Pind in Jalandhar, Punjab. 114-year-old athlete Fauja Singh was hit by a Fortuner rider, NRI Amritpal Singh Dhillon (27), while crossing the highway at a distance of 120 meters from his house. He was badly injured in this and died during treatment.
Jalandhar Rural Police had seized the Fortuner (PB20C-7100) and arrested NRI Amritpal Singh from Kapurthala near Bhogpur 30 hours after the accident. After presenting him in court, the police sent him to jail.
Fauja Singh died about 6 days ago. The last rites have not been performed yet because his sons and daughters were abroad. The family was waiting for him to come to the country. Now they have returned.
