First time in Sikh history; SGPC seeks suggestions on Akal Takht Jathedar’s appointment rules

Amritsar:  In a historic move, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has appealed to the Sikh Community to provide suggestions regarding the qualifications, appointment, jurisdiction, responsibilities and retirement rules for the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib.

The SGPC is calling on various Sikh organizations, including Sikh factions, Damdami Taksal, Nihang Singh groups, Global Sikh Institutions, Singh Sabhas, Diwans, Socities and Sikh Scholars and intellectuals both in India and abroad, to share their insights.

The committee has set a deadline of April 20, 2025, for submitting suggestions. These can be sent in writing or via official email at Info@SGPC.net or through WhatsAoo at 7710136200.

This initiative aims to establish clear rules and regulations for the role of the Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar, marking an important step in the governance of Sikh religious leadership. The SGPC’s appeal was posted on their social media handle.
