Fog, smog collectively choke Punjab; AQI remains in ‘Very Poor’ category in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: Due to no snowfall in the Himalayan region, the temperature in Punjab and Chandigarh is still above normal. Temperatures are above normal by 5 degrees in Punjab and by 4 degrees in Chandigarh. Meanwhile, a Western Disturbance (WD) has become active in the West Himalayas. Due to the distance from WD, there is no possibility of rain in Punjab, but a slight temperature change can be seen.

The effect of fog has also been seen in five districts of Punjab bordering Pakistan, due to which a yellow alert has been issued. Such fog may remain in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur and Fazilka of Punjab till November 14. The fog is also affecting the air route. On Monday, for the third consecutive day, the Amritsar-Pune flight was diverted to Delhi.

Smog is continuously choking people in Chandigarh and Punjab. Chandigarh is continuously in the red zone. Sector 22 recorded a maximum AQI of 405. The AQI reached 339 in Sector 25 and 390 in Sector 53.

Similarly, the AQI reached 357 in Mandi Gobindgarh. The maximum AQI was 306 in Amritsar, 322 in Bathinda, 317 in Jalandhar, 227 in Khanna, 308 in Ludhiana, 304 in Patiala and 299 in Rupnagar.
