Fury of Pink Bollworms, white fly on cotton crops: Bathinda Farmers forced to reap their crops

Bathinda: In Bathinda district, the fury of pink bollworms and white fly can be seen among the farmers of cotton crops. The deadly Pink bollworms along with the white fly is ravaging the cotton crops and increasing the troubles of farmers. For many years, Pink Bollworms also known as ‘Gulabi Sundhi’ have been damaging considerable amount of crops every year. Farmers who fear the loss of crops are forced to plow the crops this time too. The farmers at Tungwali village of Bathinda plowed their crops before time to save it from the deadly worms which every year cause.

The farmer had sown cotton crop on the one and a half acres of his land and one and a half acres of leased land but it got damaged due to the attack of pink bollworm and whitefly.

The said farmer had also spent Rs 10,000 to 15,000 on pesticides per acre to save the crop. The struggling farmers have demanded strict action from the Punjab government on the companies dealing in artificial pesticides and seeds, while at the same time, they have also demanded appropriate compensation from the government to the farmers who bear loss due to damage caused by worms.
