Gurdaspur: 71 people in Deeda Sansian served notices to vacate their houses

Gurdaspur: On June 15, three youths died of drug overdose in Deeda Sansian village, after which there was an atmosphere of panic in the village. The day after the incident, the people of about six houses involved in drug trafficking in the village left the village. After their escape, the police administration sealed the said six houses belonging to the drug smugglers.

Now in major turn of events, the canal department has issued notices to vacate the houses to 71 people of the said village, out of which 56 people have received the legal notices. The villagers allege that the district administration wants to defame the entire village by involving other villagers in the guise of drug smugglers while on the other hand the canal department officials said that this is not the result of any conspiracy but the result of routine work carried out by the department.

Village Sarpanch Kamlesh Kumari along with Vikrant, Karan Kumar, Paramjit, Sanju and Kuldeep said that after the death of youths due to drug overdose in the village, the police administration conducted search operations from time to time. Due to this reason, people suspected of drug dealing in the village had left the village. She added that earlier district administration had issued six notices directing to vacate houses, but now the district administration has surrounded the entire village under the guise of drug traffickers.

The people of the village were happy with action against the drug peddlers but now the canal department has issued  notice to 71 people of the village to vacate the houses. The notice said that houses have been built by illegally occupying the land of the canal department. One of the village who has been served with the notice said that his grandfather and great-grandfather have been living in the village for more than 150 years and now he is living there. He asked why the previous governments did not pay attention to the illegal occupation of the canals. he asserted that all this is being done to defame their village and make the people of the houses built on the banks of the canal homeless.

On the other hand, Canal Department Axion Karnbir Singh Bains said that the said case has nothing to do with drugs. The SDO of his department, Rohit Prabhakar, had filed a case in his court, in which it was stated that some persons in the village Dida Sansi have occupied the land of the canal department and built houses and under the same case Notices were issued to some persons.
