Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia becomes new acting Chief Justice of Punjab-Haryana HC

Chandigarh: Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia has been made the acting Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court. Earlier, Justice Ritu Bahri, the senior most judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court, was holding the post of acting Chief Justice. This post had become vacant after her appointment as Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court.

Following this, GS Sandhawalia, the senior most judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court, has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice.

About GS Sandhawalia

Sandhawalia belongs to a legal family. His father was the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court from 1978 to 1983 and Patna High Court from 1983 to 1987.

Born on 1 November 1965, Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia did his BA (Hons.) from DAV College, Chandigarh in 1986. Did LLB from Punjab University, Chandigarh in 1989.

After this he also worked as a lawyer in Punjab and Haryana Bar Council. During college days, He has also been a player representing his college and university in the game of lawn tennis.
