Hearing in HC on tardy paddy lifting: Punjab and Central Governments to file reply

Chandigarh: The matter of improper lifting of paddy in the Mandis of Punjab will be heard in the Punjab and Haryana High Court today (Tuesday). During this, the Center, Punjab Government, and FCI will file their reply in the court. On the last hearing, the court had issued notice to all three. Now Aam Aadmi Party and the Central Government are attacking each other on the issue of lifting of paddy.

At the same time, the protest of farmers is still going on. However, by-elections on four assembly seats are scheduled on November 13, so all the parties are trying to stand with the farmers.

On Monday evening, Aam Aadmi Party leaders met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. The team was led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. He told the Governor that the Central Government should be asked to make efforts to speed up the lifting of paddy. On the other hand, the government had claimed that by Monday evening, four lakh metric paddy had been lifted and Rs 7600 crore has been deposited in the accounts of farmers.

The government has ordered the officials in all the mandis to speed up the purchase of paddy. Earlier last week, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann had met Union Minister Prahlad Joshi in Delhi. Apart from this, he had also raised this matter before Union Home Minister Amit Shah
