Chandigarh: Hearing regarding the Panchayat Elections in Punjab will be held today in the Punjab and Haryana High Court today. During this time, nearly 700 petitions will be heard in the court. Earlier on Wednesday, while hearing the case, the elections of about 250 panchayats were put on hold till October 16.

Panchayat elections are to be held in Punjab on October 15. This time elections are not being held even on party symbols. But despite this, the opposition parties allege that the nominations of people and candidates associated with non-ruling party have been forcibly canceled. No NOC has been issued to any such candidates, said opposition.

Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal have raised questions on the Aam Aadmi Party government of the state. The matter has also reached the Election Commission.

There are currently 13937 gram panchayats in the state. Elections are being held in these. A total of 1 crore 33 lakh voters will cast their votes in the elections to be held on October 15. 96 thousand employees have been deployed for the elections. The government has taken several steps to conduct the elections peacefully. The leaves of all police employees and officers have been canceled till the elections. Apart from this, a holiday has been declared in the entire Punjab on the day of voting to ensure people in large number come forward to vote.

Panch and sarpanchs of many villages have also been elected unanimously by the villagers as per the appeal of CM Bhagwant Mann.
