A yellow heat-wave alert has been issued today regarding the weather in Punjab. This alert has been issued for 9 districts of Punjab. According to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in the state of Punjab has increased by an average of 1 degree Celsius.
The temperature across the state is 2.9 degrees Celsius above normal, causing heat wave conditions. Bathinda recorded the highest temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius, while Chandigarh recorded 41.7 degrees Celsius, Amritsar 41.2 degrees Celsius, Ludhiana 41.8 degrees Celsius and Patiala 41.4 degrees Celsius.
In the last 24 hours, most stations have seen an increase in temperature by 0.5 degrees Celsius to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
According to the IMD, a heat wave warning has been issued in Fazilka, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda, Patiala, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib and Mansa districts of southern Punjab today. Similar conditions are expected on May 17. North Punjab will remain safe tomorrow, but heat wave warning in South Punjab has been extended to Sangrur and Patiala.
The relief is that the weather is expected to be normal across the state on May 18. However, on May 19, a warning of moderate thunderstorm and lightning has been issued in north-western Punjab, while conditions will remain normal in south-eastern parts.
