Heatwave grips Punjab as Nautapa begins; Rain alert in 8 districts

Amritsar, May 24: There is a possibility of severe heat in Punjab for the next 9 days. Nautapa is starting from today (25 May) as soon as the Sun enters Rohini Nakshatra from Krittika. Due to the rain last evening, people have got relief from the heat of the past few days. But today, except for 8 districts of Punjab adjoining Himachal, there is going to be severe heat in all. A heat-wave alert has been issued here.

According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in the state increased by 0.4 degrees on Saturday evening. But in the evening, rain and strong winds brought down the temperature. However, the temperature remains close to normal. The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at 41.1 degrees Celsius, which was recorded in Abohar.

Orange and yellow alerts in 15 districts today

Nautapa is starting, but the weather of rain and strong winds is still prevailing in 8 districts of Punjab. But there are 15 districts where both day and night are going to be hot and orange and yellow alerts have been issued here.

Yellow alert for rain and storm: A Yellow alert for rain and storm has been issued in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali and Fatehgarh Sahib. Winds can also blow here at a speed of 40 to 60 km.

Yellow alert for heat wave- Yellow alert for heat wave has been issued in Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Patiala, Sangrur and Ludhiana. The day is going to be hot here.

Orange alert for heat wave- Yellow alert for heat wave has been issued in Ferozepur, Fazilka, Muktsar, Faridkot, Moga, Barnala, Bathinda and Mansa. Days as well as nights are going to be hot here.

Because, the sun rays fall directly on the earth and stay for a longer time. During Nautapa, the day is about 14 hours long. Farmers and astrologers waiting for the monsoon believe that if Nautapa is very hot then it rains heavily that year. That is why these nine days are considered very special.

This time, along with the Sun, the position of other planets will also be special during Nautapa. Due to which sudden changes in the weather will also be seen.

According to astrology, Nautapa will be from 25 May to 2 June. The word “Nautapa” is made up of two parts – “Nav” meaning nine days, and “Tapa” meaning to heat or burn. When the Sun enters the Rohini constellation in Taurus, it is considered to be a very hot and influential time. With the Sun entering this constellation, the heat will be at its peak during this time. According to astrological calculations, its effect will be visible everywhere.

Nautapa will begin on 25 May 2025 at 3:15 am, when the Sun will enter the Rohini constellation. Nautapa will end on 8 June 2025, when the Sun will enter the Mrigasira constellation. Offering Arghya, worshiping and donating to the Sun God is considered auspicious during Nautapa.
