Jalandhar: Mobile wing of GST department seizes 5 kg gold valued over Rs 3 crore

Jalandhar: The mobile wing of the GST department has seized 5 kg of gold in Jalandhar, Punjab. The market value of this gold is around Rs 3 crore 82 lakh. This recovery has been made by the GST wing near Shahkot and the matter has also been informed to the Election Commissioner of India. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the said gold had been seized from a big jeweler in Ludhiana.

Jalandhar Mobile Wing’s ETO Sukhjit Singh said that a secret tip was received that a person was carrying more than 5 kg of gold at the said place. Based on the information, the team imposed a blockade late at night. During this time, the car was stopped by ETO for checking. There were people sitting in the car. While searching, about five kilos of gold was recovered from inside.

Could not show any solid documents on the spot

ETO Surjit Singh said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the said gold was recovered from a person running a showroom in the name of Nikka Mal Jewelers of Ludhiana who has been identified as Yogesh Garg, resident of Ludhiana.

 ETO Surjit Singh said that after taking possession of the gold, he had deposited it in the government treasury and information about the matter has been given to the election officials and Income Tax.
