Man murdered outside liquor shop in Jalandhar’s Sanjay Gandhi Nagar; Accused arrested from UP

Jalandhar, July 12: On Friday, sensation spread in Jalandhar’s Sanjay Gandhi Nagar when the body of a young man was found lying soaked in blood outside a liquor shop near the canal bridge. As soon as the information of the incident was received, the Focal Point police station reached the spot, and after a few hours of investigation, the accused was identified and arrested. The police have registered a case of murder against the accused Deepak Kumar alias Deepu and sent the body for postmortem.

Focal Point Chowki Incharge Avtar Singh said- At around 7 am, people of the area reported that a young man’s blood-soaked body was lying outside a liquor shop near the Sanjay Gandhi Nagar canal bridge. The police team reached the spot and started an investigation. The deceased was identified as Barrister Prasad, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, who was currently living near the Focal Point Canal. The police informed the family members of the deceased, who reached the spot and identified the body.

The accused was arrested from his quarters

During this time, the police searched the nearby CCTV footage and questioned the local people. Investigation revealed that Deepak alias Deepu, who lived with the deceased, had gone to drink alcohol with him on the night of the incident. The family members of the deceased also told that Deepak lived in their house and on Thursday night both of them had gone to drink alcohol near Sanjay Gandhi Nagar Canal Bridge. The police arrested the accused Deepak from his quarter within a few hours.

Both of them had an argument under the influence of alcohol

During interrogation, Deepak confessed that while drinking alcohol, they both had an argument over something, after which he picked up a brick and hit the barrister on the head. According to the accused, he thought that the barrister had just fainted, so he went home and slept.

The police have taken the body into custody and sent it for postmortem. Outpost in-charge Avtar Singh said that a case of murder has been registered against the accused Deepak and he will be produced in court today (Saturday).
