Jalandhar: In a shocking incident from a village in Jalandhar district of Punjab, a sitting Sarpanch shot his opponent due to old enmity. The injured person is being treated in a private hospital located on Jalandhar Pathankot Highway. The condition of the injured is said to be stable.
In this case, the police of Bhogpur police station have arrested the accused of firing late at night. He has been identified as Kala Bakra village Sarpanch Davinder Singh Menta. Police have registered a case against him under the Attempt to murder, Arms Act, and other sections.
DSP Kulwant Singh of Adampur Area of Jalandhar Rural Police said that the injured person has been identified as Talwinder Singh, a resident of village Kala Bakra. Talwinder has been shot on the right side of his chest. The accused has been arrested and his licensed weapon and license have been recovered from him. Soon he will be produced in the court and taken on remand.
DSP Kulwant Singh said that the dispute had been going on between the two parties for many years. Cases have been registered against both the injured person and the Sarpanch earlier. The injured person has been sentenced by the court and has also gone to jail. The case of both is going on in the High Court. The current Sarpanch was acquitted in the said case. Also, the person who was shot had contested the elections, but his papers were canceled. Due to this the rivalry between the two had increased further.
