Major flood protection drill held in Jalandhar’s Talwandi Kalan; Army, NDRF, Police test monsoon preparedness

Jalandhar, July 8: A major flood protection exercise was organised today in Talwandi Kalan village, situated on the banks of Satluj river on Phillaur-Ludhiana road in Jalandhar.

This exercise was led by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal. During this, teams from Army, NDRF, SDRF, Punjab Police, Civil Defense, Home Guard and other departments of the district administration were also involved.

The aim of the exercise was to test preparedness to deal with emergency situations like floods and to strengthen mutual coordination.

DC said- Administration is ready in every way

On this occasion, SDM Lal Vishwas Bains and many senior officers of the army and district administration were also present. During the exercise, preparations for relief and rescue operations in case of floods were reviewed and mutual coordination was emphasized.

DC Himanshu Aggarwal said that the administration is fully alert to keep the areas around Sutlej river safe and coordination between all the departments is necessary to deal with any emergency.

Administration is alert about the rain in Punjab

The administration has become alert in view of the heavy rains in Punjab and the surrounding states. According to the Meteorological Department, moderate to heavy rains are expected in many districts for the next 2-3 days. Especially Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur and Amritsar will remain cloudy and rain may occur with strong winds.

Due to rain, there is a danger of waterlogging in low-lying areas, so farmers and common people have been advised to remain alert. Keeping this in mind, a flood protection exercise was organized today in Talwandi Kalan village of Jalandhar, in which Army, NDRF, SDRF, Police and other departments participated.
