As part of its campaign against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) Junior Engineer (JE) Baljit Singh red handed while accepting bribe. Baljit Singh was posted at the sub-station located at Kandhala Jattan in Hoshiarpur district.
Giving information on Friday, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the case was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by a resident of village Sikri in Hoshiarpur district. He said that the JE had demanded Rs 20,000 in exchange for installing a new transformer.
Demanded Rs 20,000 from the complainant, deal settled for Rs 15,000
In a statement issued by the Vigilance, it is said that the complainant contacted the Vigilance Bureau and alleged that the said JE had demanded Rs 20,000 in exchange for improving the load of electricity supply in his village and installing a new transformer. On the request of the complainant, the deal was settled for Rs 15,000.
After investigating the complaint, the Jalandhar Range team of Vigilance Bureau laid a trap and arrested Baljit Singh red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.
Case registered under the Anti-Corruption Act
The Vigilance Bureau has registered a case against the accused JE in the Jalandhar Range police station under sections of the Anti-Corruption Act. The accused will be produced before the competent court on Saturday. Further investigation of the case is underway.
