Jalandhar: Vigilance sting operation, huge corruption unvieled

Punjab: In Kartarpur town of Jalandhar, District Vigilance Bureau has registered an FIR regarding the Jang-e-Azadi Memorial located. The name of senior Punjab journalist Barjinder Singh Hamdard has also been included in the case. Two SDO rank officers have been arrested by Jalandhar Vigilance in the case.

The investigation started in March last year Vigilance Bureau Jalandhar Range had started investigation regarding this project in March last year.

For which some time ago, Managing Committee Secretary Lakhwinder Singh Johal was also summoned.


According to sources, both the arrested SDOs were involved in the said scam and had direct involvement in the scam of the project. However, Jalandhar Range SSP Vigilance Rajeshwar Sidhu has confirmed that a case has been registered regarding this.

In the letter, Barjinder Singh Hamdard had asked for 10 days’ time to appear. Vigilance had summoned Hamdard on June 9, 2023, considering the letter. But as soon as he got exemption from Vigilance, he went to Punjab and High Court. Hearing took place in the High Court on 1 June 2023. In this the court said that the questionnaire would be given to Barjinder Singh. After which Vigilance had written and sent 17 questions.

There is a complaint that funds were misused while making this project.

However, Vigilance has not issued any official statement regarding this. Barjinder Singh Hamdard has been ordered to appear before Vigilance within 6 days. The Vigilance Bureau has registered this case after a long investigation.

Barjinder Singh of Punjab Vigilance Bureau had sent a notice to Hamdard seeking answers to 17 questions. Vigilance had sent the first notice regarding the Jang-e-Azadi Memorial on 24 May 2023 and the sympathizer was asked to appear before him on 29 June 2023. But Barjinder Singh Hamdard had written a letter to Vigilance citing his personal commitments.
