Jalandhar West Bypoll: Election campaign to stop after 5 pm today, polling on July 10

Jalandhar: Election campaigning will stop in Jalandhar, Punjab today i.e. Monday at around 5 pm. Senior leaders of every party are sitting in Jalandhar and campaigning for the by-election in Jalandhar West Assembly constituency. In such a situation, the campaigning of all parties will stop from today.

This will be implemented as per the orders issued by the Election Commission. From 5 pm, all programs like road shows, public meetings, and processions will be completely banned in Jalandhar West Assembly constituency. After the end of election campaign, there will be a peaceful atmosphere in the city.

Rallies and road shows stopped 48 hours before polling

The time till 48 hours before polling is counted in the silence period. During this time, political parties and candidates are not allowed to campaign by the Election Commission. Under Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act 1951, this time limit automatically ends after the polling. Security arrangements are being completed in the city.

After the silence period begins in Jalandhar West from this evening, any kind of survey related to elections on television or other platforms may be banned. Under Section 126, no such work can be done which may affect the election results. During this time, political advertisements cannot be run through electronic and social media.

By-polls in Jalandhar west were necessitated after Sheetal Angural tendered his resignation and joined the BJP. The voting will be held on July 10 whereas counting of votes will be held on July 13.
