Jalandhar’s mother and daughter sold by relative in Muscat: kept like slaves, returned after year with help of Sant Seechewal

Jalandhar: Mother and daughter from Jalandhar district were sold in Muscat by their relative, while both were lured with a job of 30 thousand rupees per month in Dubai. The daughter, who returned from Muscat after two months, told that due to poverty at home, she and her mother had decided to go to Dubai.

A relative who became a travel agent had asked for Rs 1 lakh 20 thousand to send them to Dubai, but the matter was settled at 80 thousand. She left for Muscat from Amritsar airport via Mumbai on 5 March 2023, while her mother had reached Muscat on 2 March itself.

On reaching there, it was found that they were to be given work in Muscat instead of Dubai. When they protested, the travel agent took them to Dubai where they were kept for 2 days and were told that there is something wrong with your passport. Due to this, they could not stay in Dubai and the agent then took them back to Muscat.

After working there for the whole day, when they were kept under strict surveillance in an office, they understood that it was very difficult for them to get out of there. They were neither being paid for their work nor were they being given proper food.

Returned to India with the help of Sant Seechewal

The victim girl told that her husband had found a way to save her by reaching Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal’s office. The victim girl’s husband told that her mother-in-law had somehow managed to escape from there and returned. Due to this, even more strictness was imposed on his wife. The victim’s husband said that Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal listened to him and immediately contacted the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Muscat. After a few days, his mother-in-law and then his wife were able to return to India.

The victim reached Nirmal Kutia Sultanpur Lodhi and thanked Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal. She said that if Sant Seechewal had not helped her in time, she would not have been able to return so soon from the hellish life of Muscat. She said that she could not come here due to her mother’s ill health. Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal appealed to the youth to give priority to working in the country instead of living like slaves abroad.

The victim said that there are many such girls who are sold by these travel agents but no one is found to rescue them.
