High Court orders arrest of 4 STF Personnel in Kapurthala over 2019 false NDPS case

Kapurthala: Kapurthala Police has arrested 4 STF personnel on the orders of the High Court in an NDPS case. In the year 2019, they registered a false NDPS case in the Police Station. A 3-day remand has been granted by the court to interrogate the arrested police personnel.

DSP Sub Division Harpreet Singh said that in the year 2019, Kuldeep Singh, alias Sonu, had filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court regarding the registration of a false case by the accused STF personnel. A case was registered against 6 police personnel on 21 December 2023 and till now 4 police personnel have been arrested.

According to the information, in the year 2019, Sub-Inspector Sylvester Masih of the STF team had registered a case in the City Police Station for recovering 20 grams of heroin and 250 grams of opium from a youth Kuldeep Singh alias Sonu near the Leprosy Ashram in Kapurthala. Along with this two other youths were also named in the case.

On 16 April 2020, the challan was presented in court by the police. The accused had said that Kuldeep Singh alias Sonu was picked up from his service station. But the accused Sonu in the case presented CCTV footage in court and filed a petition in court calling the whole case false.

After investigating the matter, on 6 October 2023, the HC, as per the report of the SIT constituted, while disposing of the petition, gave a decision in favour of Sonu and ordered the then SSP Rajbachan Singh Sandhu to register a case against the STF team.

DSP Sub Division Harpreet Singh said that in the said case, 3 STF employees have been arrested and produced in court. From where 3 days of police remand have been received. While Head Constable Major Singh will be produced in the court tomorrow. The accused will be interrogated during the remand.
