Khanna: Young man dies of electrocution during Chhath Puja celebrations

Khanna: A young man died of electrocution in Khanna’s Anand Nagar. The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Montu Kumar. Montu was originally from Samastipur district of Bihar and worked in Haryana. He had come to Khanna to visit his relatives two days ago for Chhath Puja.

Montu’s relative Shankar said that it was his daughter’s birthday two days ago.  He had called his brother-in-law and sister-in-law from Haryana so that they could stay with him till Chhath Puja. This morning, when Montu was going to the roof of the quarters with sugarcane brought for the puja, the sugarcane touched the 66 KV electricity wires passing above. Montu died on the spot due to an electric shock.

Shankar said that Montu was married to his sister-in-law just 8 months ago. This accident took away the son of the family as well as the husband of a young woman. On the other hand, Dr Navdeep Jassal, posted on emergency duty at the Civil Hospital, said that when Montu was checked on being brought to the hospital, he was already dead.

The police have been informed about the incident and the body has been kept in the mortuary for post-mortem.
