Land ownership Dispute: HC issues warrants against Ludhiana Municipal Commissioner

The Punjab and Haryana high court has issued bailable warrants against Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) commissioner Aaditya Dachawal. High court issued a notice as MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachawal failed to appear in court during the hearing of a contempt petition. A case has been filed related to a land ownership dispute in Upkar Nagar.

The High Court ordered the city police commissioner to execute bailable warrants and ensure the Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner’s presence at the next hearing on May 27. The case concerns a disputed 2,200-square-yard land parcel, with ownership contested between a private petitioner and the MC.

In an earlier hearing, MC Commissioner Dachawal appeared via videoconference and requested more time to respond. However, he was absent during Friday’s proceedings, leading the court to issue bailable warrants.
The petitioner claims ownership, asserting the land belonged to their predecessors and was excluded from the Kundan Puri Scheme. Conversely, the MC argues the land is part of the Upkar Nagar Scheme and not available for private ownership.
Despite multiple opportunities, the MC has failed to provide official documentation to support its claim. The court noted the commissioner’s absence and the lack of evidence as non-compliance with its directives.
