Ludhiana: Today, lawyers are on strike in entire Punjab. There is anger among lawyers due to the police not taking strict action in the case of the murderous attack on a lawyer during the Municipal Council elections in Fatehgarh Sahib. Lawyers have been on strike in Khanna for the last 25 days and now today on January 16, lawyers will stay away from work in entire Punjab.
The incident is from Fatehgarh Sahib, where during the Municipal Council elections, lawyer Hasan Singh was attacked by the brother of local MLA Garry Warring and his associates. The attackers hit him on the head with the butt of a revolver and also attacked him with sharp weapons. The seriously injured lawyer has been admitted to the hospital.
According to Khanna Bar Association President Tejpreet Singh Atwal, the police was avoiding action by making the excuse of being busy in the meeting. The lawyers wrote a letter to the DGP Punjab and also met the SSP, who had assured action, but no action has been taken yet due to political pressure. Due to the strike, hearing of more than 500 cases is being affected daily in Khanna alone.
