Ludhiana Police beats auto driver

Ludhiana: In Ludhiana, last night a case of beating of an auto driver with sticks came to light. The auto driver has made serious allegations against the police personnel for beating him with sticks. He was also hit with sticks on his back.

According to the information, the victim, Vikram, said that he is a resident of Jamalpur 33 Foot Road. He is an engineer, and he has two children and a family. Due to a lack of work, he drives an auto for hire. Last night, at around 11 o’clock, he went to the railway station to pick up passengers.

He picked up three passengers from the station, whom he had to drop at Baba Than Singh Chowk, Number Three Division, and Tajpur Dharm Kanta.

After two passengers got down, as soon as he reached Samrala Chowk, a woman and a man pretended to be passengers and signaled for him to stop. Those people asked him to drop them near Tajpur Road, Dharm Kanta. According to auto driver Vikram, he made them sit in the auto.

After going some distance, the woman said to stop the auto. I want to go to the bathroom. On the woman’s request, he stopped the auto.

The woman and the person accompanying her got out of the car. Meanwhile, a person came from behind on a bullet motorcycle. That person asked for a beedi. As soon as she gave him the beedi, a police vehicle came near him. The policemen chased that biker for a long distance. But after some time, the police vehicle returning back stopped his auto. There were three policemen sitting inside the police vehicle. One was an officer, and the other the other two were without a uniform.

The victim told her that there was a constable with the driver in the police vehicle. The constable first hit his auto with sticks. When he was stopped, he started hitting with sticks. The police personnel hit him on the head with sticks and abused his mother and sister. According to Vikram, the police personnel beat him outside the Shani temple. Regarding this matter, SHO Bhupinder Singh of Police Station Division Number 7 said that the matter is being investigated.
