Ludhiana Vigilance nabs bribe-taking ASI; demanded Rs. 18,000 for acquittal in case

Ludhiana: The Vigilance Bureau team in Ludhiana on Wednesday arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Sikandar Raj posted at Police Station Samrala on charges of demanding a bribe of Rs 18,000. He is now posted in the police station Doraha district Ludhiana.

SSP Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu said that this case against the said police employee has been registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Ravinder Singh, resident of Sector 32-A, Chandigarh Road.

Incident is of March 13, 2021

SSP Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu told that the complainant had recorded his statement that on March 13, 2021, his driver Rajdeep Singh and helper Birju were victims of a road accident near Neelon Bridge, Samrala. On that day, ASI Sikandar Raj from police station Samrala along with other police officials reached the spot and took both the vehicles to the police station.

Demanded Rs. 18,000 for acquittal in the case

After this, ASI Sikandar Raj demanded a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from the complainant in exchange for getting his driver released on bail, releasing the goods lying in his vehicle and getting his driver acquitted from the accident case registered against him.

Later, the deal was done for Rs. 18,000. He told that the complainant recorded the conversation regarding the demand of bribe from the said police official and handed it over to the Vigilance Bureau as evidence.

SSP Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu told that during the investigation, the allegations made in the complaint were found to be true. After this, a case has been registered against ASI Sikandar Raj posted at police station Doraha under the Anti-Corruption Act.

The said accused has been arrested today from police station Doraha by the Ludhiana Range team of the Bureau. The accused will be produced in the court tomorrow.
