Majitha Hooch Tragedy: Death toll rises to 21, DSP and SHO suspended

In the Majitha Poisonous Liquor Case, the Punjab government has taken major action and suspended DSP Amolak Singh and SHO Avtar Singh of Majitha. A departmental inquiry has been started against the culprits. The police have arrested 7 people on the charge of selling poisonous liquor. They are being questioned about where and how the poisonous liquor came from. This is the fourth such case in Punjab in 3 years.

Giving information, the DGP of Punjab said that after the tragic loss of lives due to spurious liquor in an unfortunate incident that took place in Majitha, Amritsar, the Punjab Police has taken immediate action. The kingpin of this spurious liquor racket and 10 people selling local liquor have been arrested. He said that ethanol was used after being purchased online to make spurious liquor and investigation is on to expose the entire mechanism and bring all those involved to justice.

A woman from the victim’s family has said that her son started vomiting after drinking alcohol. Then he died while being taken to the hospital. Locals say that the business of spurious liquor was going on in this area for a long time but the administration never took any strict action. Now after the deaths of people, the administration has come into action and has started raids at the relevant places.

Let us tell you that 20 people have died in Amritsar district due to drinking poisonous liquor. Along with this, the condition of three people is said to be critical. All have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. In this case, the police have registered a case under the Indian Judicial Code and the Excise Act and have arrested 10 accused. Out of the seven arrested, five have been identified as the main accused Prabhjit Singh, Kulbir Singh, Sahib Singh, Gurjant Singh and Ninder Kaur. The accused are being interrogated in custody.
