Mansa farmer dies by suicide, kin cites debt of Rs 7 lakh

Mansa: A farmer committed suicide by hanging himself in Nangal Kalan village of Mansa district. The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Jarnail Singh. The police have taken the body into their possession and kept it at the Civil Hospital in Mansa for postmortem.

The deceased’s uncle, Bhola Singh, said that Jarnail Singh had a debt of Rs 7 lakh. Due to the debt, his house and land were sold. To run his business, he had also taken a tractor on installments. He took this step after being troubled by the burden of debt.

Jarnail Singh’s family includes his wife, 8-year-old son, and mother. The family is currently living in a rented house. Bhola Singh has appealed to the Punjab government to provide financial assistance to the deceased’s family so that the family can be helped.

Sadar police station has recorded the statements of the family. An investigation into the case has been started.
