Membership of Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi challenged, hearing in Punjab and Haryana HC today

Chandigarh: The petition challenging the membership of Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi filed will be heard in the Punjab-Haryana High Court today. BJP leader Gaurav Luthra has filed this petition in the High Court through advocate Manit Malhotra. In the petition, he demanded the cancellation of the election of Charanjit Singh Channi, who became MP under the Representation of the People Act.

Filing the petition, BJP leader Gaurav Luthra told the High Court that Charanjit Singh Channi has been elected MP from Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat. Gaurav alleged that Channi had hidden a lot of information while filling the nomination papers. Along with this, he has also not submitted the correct details of the expenditure incurred in the election to the Commission.

He alleged that during the elections, there was a 24-hour food facility in a hotel, but he did not mention its expenditure in the election campaign details. He used to hold 10-15 public meetings daily, but he did not mention the expenditure of a single vehicle during this time in the election campaign details. He further added that Channi did a road show in Rama Mandi without permission. Even the details of the expenditure on the booths set up outside the polling stations to distribute voter slips were not given.

The petitioner said that in such a situation it becomes clear that Channi used corrupt means to win the election. Luthra has demanded that his election should be canceled under the Representation of the People Act. The petitioner had also complained to the Election Commission in this regard, but there was no result
