The special CBI court in Mohali has given a big verdict in the Moga sex scandal case. The CBI special court has sentenced 4 police personnel, including the former SSP accused in the case to 5 years each. Along with this, the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh each on the accused.
It is worth mentioning that the court, while giving an important verdict in this 18-year-old case, had convicted former SSP Moga DS Garcha, former SP Headquarters PS Sandhu, Thanedar Amrik Singh and Thanedar Raman Kumar, while Thanedar Raman Kumar was convicted under sections of the Corruption and Extortion Act.
The complainant expressed satisfaction with the verdict
The complainant in the case, Ranjit Singh, said that the verdict has come very well. He said that he is satisfied with this verdict. Let us tell you that on March 29, the court had found all four guilty in this case. Akali leader Tota Singh son of Barjinder Singh alias Makhan Brar and Sukhraj Singh were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
Sentenced under which section?
The CBI court had found Davinder Singh Garcha and PS Sandhu guilty under Section 13 (1) (d) as well as Section 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PC). Raman Kumar and Amarjit Singh were also convicted under the said sections of the PC Act and Section 384 (coercion) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Amarjit Singh was found guilty under Section 384 as well as Section 511.
What is Moga Sex Scandal Case?
In the 2007 Moga sex scandal, Manjit Kaur and her husband, along with two minor girls, were taken into custody. After which Manjit Kaur became a government witness when she came out on bail in 2013. Who was shot dead along with her husband in Zira in September 2018. In the case, while delivering an important verdict today, the special CBI court said that the then IPS officers Davinder Singh Garcha, posted as SSP Moga, PS Sandhu, posted as SP Headquarters, Raman Kumar, posted as Police Station City Moga, and Thanedar Amarjit Singh, also posted in Moga, blackmailed a businessman by threatening to name him in the case and took bribe from many.
Regarding which, a businessman from Moga filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and this case was handed over to the CBI. The CBI court convicted the accused on March 29.
