Mohali: Illegal construction by father-son involved in 12 criminal cases demolished

In an operation under the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, Mohali Police launched a drive to demolish an illegal structure built by drug peddlers in village Jujhar Nagar under the jurisdiction of Police Station Balongi. The operation was carried out against a father-son duo involved in 12 criminal cases, including NDPS and Excise Act.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harmandeep Singh Hans said that the operation was carried out as per the standing instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Director General, Punjab Police, Gaurav Yadav.

He said that the illegal structure was demolished in response to the request of the Rural Development and Panchayat Department, which had sought the help of the district police in removing the illegal encroachment of drug peddlers on the panchayat land.

SSP Hans revealed that seven FIRs have been registered against Malkit Singh son of Karam Chand from 2018 to 2024. Out of these, two are under the NDPS Act, two under the Excise Act, Three under the NDPS Act, and two more under the IPC.

All these cases are registered at the Balongi police station. Five FIRs have been registered in the name of his son, Happy, at Balongi police station between 2018 and 2025. These include two under the NDPS Act, one under the Excise Act and one each under the IPC and BNS (Indian Penal Code).

SSP Hans said that when the Panchayat Department sought our help to recover the illegally occupied land, a police team led by DSP Kharar-1, Karan Sandhu, was deployed to maintain law and order during the demolition operation. SP (PBI) Deepika Singh was also present at this time.
