Woman commits suicide by jumping into canal in Punjab

Abohar: On Monday, in Abohar, Punjab, a woman committed suicide by jumping into a canal passing on Fazilka Road. The woman called Bhabhi and informed her before committing suicide. Khuikheda police took the body of the woman in custody and sent it to the hospital for a postmortem.

According to the police, the woman had become friends with a young man at the place where she worked. Due to this friendship, there were fights in the woman’s in-laws’ house. Due to this, she was living in her maternal home.

The woman has been identified as Harpreet Kaur, alias Noor (30). She used to work at Vishal Mega Mart on Fazilka Road. Seven years ago, she was married to Nikhil, a resident of Anand Nagar Street No. 2. After marriage, Noor and Nikhil have a 5-year-old son.

Noor’s father said that his daughter had become friends with a young man working in the mart. He was the father of three children. Because of this friendship, there were fights at Noor’s house. A week ago, Noor’s in-laws threw her out of the house. They also asked for a divorce. Noor came to her maternal home with all her belongings and scooty. She left her son with her husband, Nikhil.

The father told her that Noor had been suffering from depression since coming to her maternal home. Before jumping into the canal, she went to her son’s school to meet him. After this, she called her sister-in-law and said that she was going to jump into the canal and die. Her sister-in-law tried to convince Noor a lot, but she did not listen.

Noor’s brother Suraj informed Nar Seva Narayan Samiti about the incident. Noor’s scooter was found parked on the banks of the canal. After several hours, her body was recovered from the canal in Bandiwala village.

Noor’s father and brother have demanded strict action against her husband, Nikhil, her father-in-law, her mother-in-law, and her friend.
