Money Laundering Case: PMLA court convicts sacked DSP Jagdish Bhola and 17 others

Mohali:In the money laundering case related to international drug smuggling worth Rs 6000 crore, ED’s special court has convicted and sentenced 17 people including Punjab Police’s sacked DSP Jagdish Bhola. This also includes Bhola’s wife and father-in-law. ED officials were also present on this occasion. He said that the verdict has come in four charge sheets. While three are still pending.

During this, Jagdish Bhola, Manpreet, Sukhraj, Sukhjit Sukha, Maninder, Davinder Singh Happy, Avtar Singh have been sentenced to 10 years each.

While Jagdish Bhola’s wife Gurpreet Kaur, Avtar’s wife Sandeep Kaur, Jagminder Kaur Aulakh, Gurmeet Kaur, Aramjit Singh and Bhola’s father-in-law Dilip Mann have been sentenced to 3 years each. Whereas, Gurpreet Singh, Subhash Bajaj and Ankur Bajaj have been sentenced to 5 years each.

There were a total of 23 accused in this case. Four of them have died. Bhola’s father Balshinder was also an accused in the case, however he has died. While 2 people are POs in the case.

It is worth noting that this case came to light in the year 2013. The disclosure of this case caused a stir in Punjab politics and many leaders of the state were also questioned. Investigation revealed that this drug racket is worth Rs 6,000 crore. In the year 2019, the CBI court sentenced 25 people in this case under the NDPS Act. Punjab Police arrested Arjun Awardee wrestler Rustam-e-Hind and dismissed DSP of Punjab Police Jagdish Singh Bhola in this case. Then it was revealed that this racket is spread from Punjab to foreign countries.

When ED started investigating the case, it was found that the accused involved in this case had built property worth crores of rupees whereas these people had not even paid income tax. At the same time, their income is much more than their income. It became clear from this that the said people were involved in some other business. After this, ED attached the property of the accused. This included luxurious bungalows, industrial plots and other properties from Mohali to many places.

Earlier Jagdish Bhola’s father Balshinder Singh died on 24th July. When Bhola reached his village from jail on 26th July for his last rites, he said that the governments were behind implicating him in this case. He said that this case should be investigated by CBI and if he is found guilty in the investigation, then he should be hanged.
