Monsoon Session of Punjab assembly from today; Opposition to surround govt over key issues

Chandigarh: The 3-day monsoon session of the Punjab Assembly will begin from today. The session is expected to be tumultuous. Before the session begins, tribute will be paid to the deceased personalities. These include the names of many MLAs and freedom fighters including Padma Shri famous poet Surjit Patar who passed away months ago. The session will run till September 4.

The session will start today at 2 pm. During this, tribute will be paid to former Speaker Surjit Singh Minhas, former minister Sukhdev Singh Dhillon, former Minister of State Surjit Singh Kohli, former Lok Sabha member Kamal Chaudhary, former Rajya Sabha member Gurcharan Kaur, former MLA Dhanwant Singh, Sardul Singh, freedom fighter Kashmir Singh, Hardev Singh, Jagdish Prasad and famous writer and poet and Surjit Patar. However, nothing has been listed except obituary references for the day 1 of the session in the list of business.

 

After the obituary, further proceedings will go on. The opposition will try its best to corner the government on the issue of law and order, and drug trafficking. Congress leader and MLA Aruna Chaudhary said that her party will raise the issue of deteriorating law and order in the state. Deteriorating law and order is one of the biggest issues.

Incidents of snatching, theft, and extortion are happening every day in the state. She also accused the government of failing to fulfill its promise of giving Rs 1000 per month to every woman.

Congress MLA Sukhwinder Singh Kotli said that the AAP government had promised to set up 18 colleges in the state. Two and a half years of the AAP government have passed, but they have not been able to buy land to set up a single college.

The session of the assembly will be 3-day long. Amid the ruckus and uproar of opposition, the ruling AAP will try to clear the important legislation.
