MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa moves privilege motion against Gurdaspur DC, writes to LS speaker

Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa moved a special rights motion against Deputy Commissioner (DC) Uma Shankar Gupta for ‘disrespecting him and her colleagues in the presence of government officials’.

Randhawa has sent a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla informing about his decision. They have made SP (Headquarters) Jugraj Singh, ADC (Development) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and ADC (General) Surinder Singh as witnesses. All these officers were present in the DC office when the incident took place.

He said that all these officers were present in the DC office when the incident took place. It is to be noted that Members of Parliament enjoy privileges that help them fulfill their duties. A privilege motion is a formal complaint by MPs challenging any action that undermines their rights, powers and dignity.

It may be mentioned that Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa, former Cabinet Minister Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Gurdaspur Congress MLA Barinder Meet Singh Pahra went to meet the DC after a dharna. The complaint of the Congress workers was that the administration was not giving NOC to them in view of the panchayat elections. Randhawa alleged that the DC asked him to leave his office. On the other hand, the Deputy Commissioner says that he did not ask anyone to go out.

According to the DC, when Sukhjinder Randhawa was discussing with him, he was given tea. he added that he can never even think of asking any MP and MLA to leave their office. Pratap Bajwa alleged that a sitting AAP MLA has actually kidnapped all the Panchayat Secretaries of this district and is keeping them captive in his house. They wanted to tell the DC about it but instead of listening to the matter, the officer kept making other excuses and did not respond.
