Multani Murder Case: Trial begins against Ex-DGP Sumedh Saini, supplied with supplementary challan

Chandigarh: The trial of the case registered against former DGP of Punjab Police Sumedh Saini in the murder case of 33-year-old IAS son Balwant Singh Multani has started after four years. In December 2020, the SIT investigating the case had filed a charge sheet against Saini under seven sections including murder.

In the case of Balwant Singh Multani’s abduction from his house about 33 years ago and later cremation of his body, Mohali Special Court today gave copies of main challan and supplementary challan to former Punjab DGP Sumedh Saini and former DSP KIP Singh.

Sumedh Saini did not appear in the court today, due to which the court gave the copies of the challan presented to the former DGP by the Mohali police against Saini to his lawyer HS Dhanoa.

After almost four years, the next hearing of this case will be held on November 26. Earlier, Sumedh Saini had obtained a stay on the trial in the lower court from the high court. Now the testimony in this case is likely to start.

After the High Court’s intervention, a criminal case under Sections 302, 384, 201, 344, 330, 219 and 120-B was registered against former DGP Sumedh Saini and others in Mataur police station.

In this regard, a charge sheet was filed in the District Magistrate’s Court in December 2020 based on the report of the SIT. The SIT has produced 47 witnesses in the nearly 500-page charge sheet, in which former sub-inspector Jagir Singh and Thanedar Kuldeep Singh have been made sworn witnesses, while former sub-inspector Anup Singh and sub-inspector Har Sahai Sharma have been declared innocent after investigation. has taken

Former DSP Baldev Singh Saini and Inspector Satveer Singh nominated in this case have already died. Later, the police also nominated former DSP KIP Singh in this case. Due to the Supreme Court’s stay in this case, the hearing could not start in the Mohali court.
