Patiala : New information has come to light in the case of the death of a 10-year-old girl Manvi after eating a cake ordered on her birthday in Patiala. The cakes prepared in the bakery were of poor quality.

An investigation by the Department of Health found that synthetic sweetener was used excessively for artificial sweetness in the cake. However, the cake that Manvi ate on his birthday has also been sent by the police to the state forensic lab for chemical testing, the report of which is yet to come.

Action against bakery

According to the health department officials, action will now be taken against New India Bakery, which is preparing cakes in this case and a fine will also be imposed.

On March 24, 10-year-old Manvi, a resident of Aman Nagar, died after eating a cake ordered on her birthday. The cake was ordered online by the family through Zomato from New India Bakery located in Raghomajra area.

Synthetic sweetener found in large quantities

After the death, the health department took samples of four cakes from New India Bakery. Two cakes were found to be of poor quality in the report. District Health Officer Dr. Vijay Kumar said that synthetic artificial sweetener was found in high quantity in two cakes.

However, synthetic sweetener must be used in very small quantities in food and cold drinks etc. If it is used in excess, it can increase the blood sugar level very quickly.
