NIA raids multiple locations in Punjab-Haryana over Amritsar grenade attack

Chandigarh, June 13: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has intensified the investigation into the grenade attack on Amritsar police station. The agency has raided 15 locations of people associated with the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist organization in Punjab and Haryana.

During the raid, the team has seized suspicious items like mobiles, digital devices and documents from their houses. At the same time, the NIA team is also investigating to gather more information and expose the real conspiracy of the BKI gang.

Gangster Happy Pasiyan had taken responsibility for the attack

In January 2025, there was a grenade attack on the Gumtala police post in Amritsar district of Punjab. The banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) took the blame for the attack, and its member Happy Pasian claimed responsibility for the attack.

On Thursday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) intensified the investigation into the case. The team raided 15 places including Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Pathankot, Kapurthala, Rupnagar and Sirsa in Haryana.

Investigations revealed that the attack on the Gumtala police station was part of a plan to attack police stations in northern states.

Sarwan funded the attack from America

Investigations revealed that the money for the attack was provided by Sarwan Singh alias Bhola, who lives in the US. He passed on the money to Bagga Singh alias Rinku and Mandeep Singh Magga. Bagga was arrested in February 2025 by the Punjab Police, which had initiated the first investigation into the case. While Mandeep is currently absconding.

The investigation gained momentum only when the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over and registered a new case in April 2025. It was then that the NIA conducted searches at the houses of the accused, suspects and US-based Sarwan alias Bhola and his brother Mandeep Singh Makka.

Bhola and Makka are brothers of notorious drug smuggler Cheeta

Ranjit Singh alias Cheeta, accused of smuggling 532 kg heroin hidden among salt brought from Afghanistan via Pakistan into Punjab, was arrested by Haryana Police and NIA teams from Sirsa five years ago. Bhola and Makka are brothers of the same notorious drug smuggler Ranjit Singh alias Cheeta. Sarwan Singh Bhola is also an accused in another narco-terror case.
