‘No possibility of any kind of alliance with Shirmonai Akali Dal in Punjab’: Union Minister Gajendra Shekhawat

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat made it clear that there is not scope for alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab. He clarified that BJP is not considering any alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab moving forward. His words signal that the party is focusing on strengthening its position in the state and intends to form the government independently, without any coalition.

This could mark a significant shift in the political dynamics in Punjab, especially given the history of BJP and SAD alliances in the past.

Union Minister of culture and tourism in India said, “There is a permanent full stop on any agreement (alliance) between BJP with Akali Dal (in Punjab). No such possibilities will be deliberated on. We are working with all strength to ensure that the BJP forms the Government in Punjab on its own. There is no possibility of any kind of alliance with Shirmonai Akali Dal”

The BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have had a long-standing alliance, especially since the early 1990s. However, tensions grew over issues like the 2015 sacrilege incident and the 2020 farm laws, leading to SAD breaking ties with the BJP at the national level. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat’s recent statement signals a permanent end to any future alliance between the two in Punjab. The BJP now aims to form the government independently in Punjab, likely to strengthen its own position without relying on SAD. This marks a significant shift in the political landscape of the state.
