Noose tightens around Majithia again: SIT summons again in Drug trafficking case

Chandigarh: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the drug smuggling case worth crores of rupees in Punjab will again question Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia. The interrogation will take place this month. The SIT has sent summons to Majithia for questioning on June 18. He will have to appear at the Patiala Police Line for questioning.

The investigation of this case is being led by Patiala Range DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar. But earlier due to the Lok Sabha elections, this case had cooled down. No one was questioned from April to May. But as soon as the elections have been completed, the investigation has again gained momentum. Earlier, people close to Majithia have been questioned. At the same time, documents ranging from property to other documents were sought from Majithia.

New SIT was formed in January

A new SIT was formed in the Majithia case earlier this year. The responsibility of the SIT has been given to Patiala Range DIG HS Bhullar. The government had reconstituted the SIT after the retirement of ADGP Mukhwinder Singh Chhina. Apart from DIG Bhullar, Patiala SSP Varun Sharma and Dhuri SP Yogesh Sharma and some other officers were included in the SIT. The SIT has questioned him three to four times. However, earlier there was a problem in the interrogation due to the farmers’ movement.

The case was registered during the Congress government

The police had registered this case against Majithia on 20 December 2021, 3 years ago during the Congress government. After this he also had to go to jail. After spending 5 months in jail, Majithia got bail on 10 August 2022. Majithia has alleged that no charge sheet has been filed yet in the case in which he has been in jail. At the same time, no recovery has been made from him in the case.
