NSG’s mockdrill held at Punjab State Assembly, hostage situation was staged

Chandigarh: Exercise GANDIV-VI was conducted by the National Security Guard (NSG) in Chandigarh which concluded successfully on Sunday. A challenging hostage situation was simulated in the Punjab Assembly. In this simulated operation, joint efforts of local police, HIT teams of Operation Cell and NSG resulted in the safe evacuation of the hostages.

At the start of the exercise, as soon as a hostage situation was indicated inside the Assembly, the HIT teams of local police and Operation Cell immediately cordoned off the area. They secured all access points and ensured that no suspect could escape. Considering the gravity of the situation, the NSG was called for assistance.

Several HIT teams of NSG entered the Assembly building through the ground and strategically subdued the suspects. Meanwhile, a special HIT team intervened by helicopter and entered directly from above, which proved to be the most decisive turning point of the entire operation. The team’s entry from the helicopter surprised the suspects and soon helped in the safe evacuation of the hostages.

After the successful completion of the exercise, a debriefing session was held at Police Lines, Sector 26. In this session, police and NSG officers shared their experiences, reviewed various strategies and discussed the improvements required to deal with such situations in future.

Exercise GANDIV-VI not only showcased synergy between the NSG and local police but also proved the preparedness and efficiency of the security agencies in emergencies.
