The Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab has taken a big action against the corruption and drug network spread in the jails. To ensure transparency and discipline in the functioning of the jails, the state government has suspended 25 jail officials and employees with immediate effect.

The suspended officials include a total of 25 officers and employees associated with various jails, including 3 Deputy Superintendents, 2 Assistant Superintendents. The government was receiving complaints against these officers for corruption, negligence and promoting the drug network inside the jail.

Strict stand of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had already made it clear that a zero tolerance policy would be adopted against drugs in the state and no matter who it is, no one will be spared. In view of the long-running irregularities within the prison department, this action has been taken under the same policy.

Action after increasing complaints in jails

According to sources, the government was constantly receiving reports of cases like supply of drugs, smuggling of mobile phones, giving special facilities to prisoners and bribery from many jails. These allegations were confirmed in the recent visits and investigations done in some jails, after which this decision was taken.

Preparations to curb drug smuggling

The Punjab government is working on a plan to completely eliminate the drug smuggling network present in the jails. Clear instructions have been given to the top officials of the jail department that if anyone is found negligent or involved in any further cases, strict action will be taken.
