Orange alert for cold and fog in 9 districts of Punjab, Temperature to drop further

Chandigarh: Due to cyclone circulation around Punjab, an orange alert has been issued regarding fog and cold wave in the state today. The fog may become denser today. Due to this the visibility may reach to zero level. At the same time, snowfall continues in the mountains. Due to this the effect of cold will be seen in Punjab and Chandigarh as well. It is expected that the temperature will drop further today and in the coming days too.

According to the Meteorological Center, a yellow alert regarding fog in Chandigarh has been issued. An orange alert has been issued regarding fog in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala and Mansa in Punjab. Apart from fog, a cold wave alert has also been issued here. A yellow alert has been issued for fog and cold wave in the rest of Punjab.

The Meteorological Department has expressed apprehension that the effect of fog and cold wave may continue till January 3. In these 5 days, the temperature in Punjab may drop by 3 degrees.

According to the Meteorological Center, rain was seen in Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana in the last days of December. Two new western disturbances are going to be active between 1st and 6th January. The effect of this will be seen in the western Himalayan mountain range. After which there may be rain in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh as well as the plains.
