Politics on Hailstorm: SAD President Sukhbir Badal targets Punjab Govt, demands immediate relief to farmers

Chandigarh: Crops getting damaged following the sudden change in weather caused by unseasonal rains and hailstorms in Punjab is what farmers fear now. The farmers have been facing the repercussions of heavy rain in the last few days. It is expected that the effect of unseasonal changes in weather will be seen on crops such as wheat, maize, and sugarcane.

Meanwhile, politics on hailstorms have also started. Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal has raised the issue of damage to crops. He shared a video of an extensive hailstorm around raising the concerns of farmers.

He said that wheat and other standing crops in the state are facing massive damage due to prevailing inclement weather including unseasonal rain, high velocity winds and hailstorm.

He added Farmers are already in the grip of a severe crisis as farming is no longer a remunerative profession. This natural calamity and govt’s total indifference to farmers woes will break their backs, he said.

While targeting the government he demanded that immediate relief should be given to farmers. He also said that govt must order fresh girdawaris to assess the actual loss. At most of the affected places the loss is total.
