Protest turns violent: BJP workers pelted stone at Farmers in Amritsar, Farmers to gherao SSP office

Amritsar: BJP workers pelted stones at farmers who came to protest against the Bharatiya Janata Party program in Amritsar, Punjab. Police administration was also present there. In this incident, about half a dozen farmers have been injured. Farmers allege that they are going to gherao the SSP Rural office in protest against the police administration for not taking any action.

The incident happened on Wednesday evening. A program was organized by BJP leader Mukhwinder Singh Mahal in Bhattewad village under Lopoke in Amritsar. After receiving information about this, workers of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee arrived with flags. After which the BJP campaigners of village Bhittewad Mukhtyar Singh, Anup Singh, Jagbir Singh and Tajinder Singh started arguing with the farmers.

First abuse and then scuffle

Police were present on the spot. But during the debate, both sides started abusing which resulted into scuffle. The police tried to pacify the situation between farmers and BJP workers  but later the abusing turned into scuffle. It is also being alleged that BJP workers started throwing stones at the farmers.

About half a dozen farmers were injured

At the time of the incident, the farmers had to run away for protection. Farmers part of protest, Gurvel Singh Dhol, Pragat Singh Khayal, Balkar Singh Kale Ghanupur etc. suffered serious injuries in the incident.  

The farmers allege that the police was standing in the middle only to stop the farmers, taking advantage of which the other side started pelting stones at the BJP workers.

Police administration accused of not taking action

Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee leader Sarwan Singh Pandher has alleged that the police has not taken any action against the accused who pelted stones. Angered by this, the farmers will now reach the SSP Rural office on Thursday and gherao it. Until the police takes action against the accused, the farmers will continue their protest.
