Punjab and Haryana HC orders status on NDPS cases, calls for action against inactive officers

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has shown strictness in the cases of not arresting the accused in drug smuggling cases. The court has sought a status report of NDPS cases registered in 6 months from the DGP of Punjab.

In the status report, he will have to tell how many accused in these cases have not been caught yet nor have they been declared PO. The court ordered that the accused in the NDPS case should be arrested immediately.

If they are not caught within six months, then they should be declared PO. Their property should be attached. Also, if the investigating officer does not take appropriate action in these cases, then action should be taken against them as well.

The hearing of the NDPS case registered in September 2023 was going on in the High Court today. The accused has not been arrested in this case yet. In that case, a report was filed in the court today by the police. It was told that there were 87 accused who were neither arrested nor declared PO.

During the hearing, the court ordered the Bathinda SSP to arrest the 87 people whose status report was given by them on the list on a priority basis. If they are not arrested, they will be declared POs. Their properties should be attached.
