Jalandhar: AAP MLA Mohinder Bhagat, who won the by-election from Jalandhar West constituency of Punjab, will be made a minister today. There is talk that he can be given the responsibility of sports ministry. At the same time, AAP MLA Balkar Singh from Kartarpur, Jalandhar, resigned from the minister post yesterday. AAP has given a chance to the MLA from the middle of Jalandhar city.
According to sources, Bhagat got a call yesterday. Most of Bhagat’s area is such where the biggest businessmen of Punjab related to the sports industry are sitting. In such a situation, there is a possibility that he will be made the Sports Minister. Earlier, the Sports Minister was Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, who resigned after winning the Lok Sabha elections.
During the Jalandhar by-election, CM Bhagwant Mann had also promised that if Mohinder Bhagat won the by-poll then he would be given the post of cabinet minister.
Mohinder Bhagat’s father Chunni Lal Bhagat has also been a minister. He became a minister from BJP quota in the Akali-BJP coalition government. However, now he is not an active politician. Mohinder Bhagat joined AAP during the Lok Sabha elections. After this, he was given a ticket from Jalandhar West in the by-election. Former minister Bhagat had said that now he has no connection with BJP or any other party. He has left politics.
AAP got a one-sided victory on the Jalandhar West seat. AAP’s Mohinder Bhagat won from here by 37,325 votes. He got total of 55,246 votes. The victory in By-poll was considered crucial for AAP as the ruling AAP was not able to put a great performance in the Lok Sabha Elections.
