Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Sukhbir Badal express profound grief over demise of poet Surjit Patar

Chandigarh : Renowned poet and Padma Shri awardee Dr Surjit Patar passed away on Saturday. He was 79-years-old. It is learnt that he left peacefully in his sleep.

Today, morning when Bhupinder Kaur Patar found that that Dr Patar did not awaken and was unresponsive, he was rushed to DMC Hospital where he was declared dead.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann express profound grief over demise of Dr. Surjit Patar. He wrote on his official X handle that ‘It was very sad when the proud son of Punjabi language, Surjit Patar, passed away suddenly.’

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed heartfelt condolences on demise of Punjab’s famous poet Dr. Surjit Patar. He also wrote on his official X handle that, “ਕੋਈ ਡਾਲੀਆਂ ‘ਚੋਂ ਲੰਘਿਆ ਹਵਾ ਬਣਕੇ” With the passing away of Shri Surjit Patar, the beloved son of mother tongue Punjabi, the great poet and the era man of literature in this century, such a void has been created in the world of literature which will be very difficult to fill.”

“After the reign of Shiv Batalvi, Patar Sahib was the most popular and beloved poet of Punjabis. I express my heartfelt condolences to his family and his many well-wishers and pray at the feet of Akal Purakh to rest the holy soul of Patar Sahib at his feet and rest his family and the world. May their loved ones in every corner be given the strength to bear this shock”, He added

SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia also expressed grief over demise of DR. Surjit Patar. He prayed to god that he bless the departed soul. He wrote on His X handle.

“The news of the passing away of Punjab’s proud poet Surjit Patar is very sad. Their Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat cannot be described in words. Surjit Patarji, the owner of a very calm, amiable and warm nature, was, is and will always be the pride of Punjab. It is a prayer to Akal Purakh that He blesses the departed holy soul with abiding at His feet and blesses the family behind.”

Surjit Patar was famous poet of Punjab. He started writing poetry in his mid sixties and his famous poetic compositions include “Hawa vich Likhe Harf” Birkh Arz Kare, Hanere Vich Sulagdi Varnmala, Lafzaan Di Dargah, Patjhar Di Pazeb, and Surzameen.

He was also the president of Punjabi Sahit Akademi and was awarded Padma Shri in 2012. Patar hailed from Patar Kalan village in Jalandhar and retired as professor of Punjabi from
 Punjab Agricultural University.

He received the Padma Shri in 2012. He was the president of the Punjab Arts Council.
