Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann to meet protesting farmers today

Chandigarh: Today Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann will be meeting farmers who have been protesting in Chandigarh for the last four days. The farmers were protesting on 8 major issues including the implementation of agricultural policy. The farmers will be having a direct meeting with CM Bhagwant Mann today (Thursday). The meeting will be held in Chandigarh here at 3 pm. After the meeting, the further strategy will be decided by the farmers. Earlier on Wednesday, government officials had met the farmers. Farmer leader Joginder Singh Ugrahan said that the whole situation regarding the struggle will be clear only after today’s meeting.

These farmers of Punjab have gathered under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) and Khet Mazdoor Union. The farmers had reached Chandigarh before the monsoon session of the assembly began. After about fifteen years, the Chandigarh administration had given them permission to set up a front in Chandigarh.

The farmers had set up a front in Dussehra Ground of Sector-34. The farmers demanded to take out a march to the Vidhan Sabha during the session but permission was granted to march till Matka Chowk only. Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh reached Matka Chowk and took the demand letter from the farmers. Also, he had assured the farmers that he would raise this matter before the CM as their lawyer.

Earlier on Wednesday, on the last day of the Assembly’s monsoon session, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said that the government has made an agricultural policy which will be implemented soon.
